Nairobi & The love of Houses

Nairobians and their love of houses
--------

welcome to my blog. I am not a professional writer and i don't claim to be one. however, i am young kenyan with great love and passion for my country and my continent Africa.

well, this certainly isn't my first time writing. going through primary, secondary, university, writing was part and parcel of most of life..be it in exams or projects, I had to be good at writing.

Without further due, my name is Mr. Fiugs, an avid lover of this beautiful city called Nairobi and why lie, I prefer the greener and more cleaner areas of the city. But don't we all; whether its looking for a job or a college or even to live., we all prefer the more affluent areas of town.

I guess the problem lies with a seriously lazy and defunct city council which is ever squabbling and fighting on national tav. Shame on you councillors, oops, city fathers.

Well, I have lived in this city for a great number of years and what I am witnessing now is quite baffling. in every corner, every street, every road there is a construction in progress. The developments are springing up everywhere. Now, this situation perhaps can be attributed to a rising middle class combined with an upper class that is rapidly getting richer. Yes, folks…the rich are certainly getting richer in Kenya. don't believe me, ask around how much your boss takes home…then get back to me. As for the middle class, the banks, under pressure from the CBK and their shareholders, are courting customers for loans and mortgages. Its no long a unique or chic for the banker to call you up..its so common that at times, customers are often complaining that they receive too many calls from their banks requesting them to take up loans.

I believe its great that the construction sector is taking off well thus providing the economy with jobs and taxes. In fact, the ripple effect is amazing.

Here are the main actors in this multibillion dollar (shillings too) business:

1. The land owner
2. The banker
3. The developer
4. The construction group (cement manufacturer, steel, wood etc)
4. The selling agent
5. The buyer
6. The lawyer
7. The banker (yes, i repeated)
8. The taxman
9. The service providers
10. The FMCG group
